Harshbarger, JamesJames J. Harshbarger, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 1:39 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born April 6, 1930 in Galesburg, the son of Wayne Christian and Evelyn Georgina (Wright) Harshbarger. He married Elizabeth A. Scalf on December 17, 1952 in Streator, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Desi C. Harshbarger of Galesburg and James B. (and Ute) Harshbarger of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; a daughter, Connie Sue (and Bob) McMillan of Knoxville, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren with one on the way; a brother, Bruce Harshbarger of Rockport, Texas; three sisters, Audrey (and David) Reckman of Pharr, Texas, Evelyn (and Frank) Gould of Galesburg, and Patsy Peterson of Monmouth, Illinois; and two sisters-in-law, Louanna Harshbarger of Rockport, Texas and Jeannette Harshbarger of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.

James worked in Tool & Die Maintenance at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 31 years, retiring in 1989. He attended Galesburg schools and lived in this area most of his life.

He served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. He was a member of Harry W. Philblad American Legion Post 749 in Knoxville and VFW Post 2257 in Galesburg.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mr. Dean Kelso will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where Military Honors will be provided.. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Humane Society.
