City Council to Discuss Water Treatment Plant Litigation, Community Center Tonight

1-20-15 Galesburg City CouncilThe Galesburg City Council will work through a number of items this evening, including a potential legal conflict with the designer of an Oquawka water plant.

City officials are attempting to regain assets from the contractor which now operates under the name AECOM. If approved, litigation will be taken against the designer of the plant, who reportedly built the facility with a design defect.

The plant was opened back in 2007, when a contractual agreement was made between Galesburg and AECOM.

Meanwhile, aldermen are expected to once again discuss the on-going issue of naming a city community center tonight.

New First Ward Alderman Angela Bastian has now sat on the council for a meeting, and has been briefed on the issue.

Council members could decide to name the Boys & Girls Club of Knox County as the center as at least a temporary solution.

If passed, the two parties would enter into a five-year agreement. The issue has been discussed for months, with action essentially being tabled at the last two council meetings.
