Police Continue Search For Tire Slashing Culprit

IL-GalesburgPDThe Galesburg Police Department is continuing the investigation of a string of vehicle vandalism crimes that took place recently.

WGIL received a tip from an area resident late last Thursday, indicating that a number of vehicles on both North and Broad streets had their tires slashed.

GPD has confirmed at least eight incidents took place over the course of two days last week, including a report from North Cedar Street as well.

According to reports, the majority of punctures on each vehicle were approximately an inch in diameter, and were believed to have been made by a knife.

As of last night, authorities still do not have a lead as to the culprit or culprits involved.

In an unrelated incident that was reported to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend, A person has reportedly been acting as an officer from the department.

According to a press release sent by the department, an individual has identified themselves by the name of Sgt. Greg Hughes–an alleged officer in the Warrant Division.

No such person is employed by the department. Those with information in regard to either of the crimes are encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
