Doan, HaroldHarold W. Doan, 91, of Galesburg, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at home.

He was born February 17, 1924 in Buffalo, New York the son of Harold and Nancy (Chambers) Doan. He married Noella “Nellie” Conroy in 1949. She preceded him in death October 11, 1990.

He is survived by a son, Jake Doan of Galesburg; a daughter, Nancy (and Jim) Eaton of Galesburg; and several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.   In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Tommy Voyles.

Harold served in the Canadian Army for seven years as a gunner. He worked at Gates Rubber Company, retiring after 27 years. Harold was active in URW Union Local 685, acting as union steward and treasurer and also with setting up union conventions throughout the states. After retiring from Gates, he then delivered camping trailers across the United States. He then worked at Maytag as a security guard for 10 years.

Harold enjoyed camping and going to Las Vegas several times a year.   He enjoyed keeping up with family, especially his and his wife’s families in Canada.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate.
