Henry County Authorities Release More Details Into Officer Scam

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says it is continuing to receive reports of an on-going officer scam that has been taking place since last week.

The scam is taking place via phone call, e-mail, and through text messages at peoples homes and places of employment.
Authorities say that in all compiled cases, the caller is male and uses names such as “Sgt. Greg Hughes” or “Officer Henson.” The message reportedly states that a warrant has been issued for an arrest, and asks for money to remove that warrant for a certain amount of money. A person under either of those names does not exist within the department.

The department says the scammer has knowledge of Henry County Judge names, and asks people to appear in court on certain dates or times.

Reports of the scam have been claimed in Peoria and Rock Island counties as well.

Authorities added that the intent of the scam is to purchase a Money Gram at a local Wal Mart. Those who believe they have fallen victim to the scam are asked to contact local law enforcement.
