Illinois Department Of Transportation Listens To Galesburg Infrastructure Concerns

IDOT LogoThe Illinois Department of Transportation stopped in Galesburg yesterday for their Infrastructure Tour.

IDOT Deputy Secretary Christine Reed came by to listen to what Galesburg citizens had to say about the roads, rails and bridges in the area.

Carl Sandburg College President Dr. Lori Sundberg spoke at the event about the importance of transit to students at the college.

Sundberg mentioned that many students do not have cars, so they rely on buses and railways to get to classes.

“We have statewide programs, and some students come and live at the villas frequently and they need to use the bus,” says Sundberg. “It’s pretty limited as to what kind of service they can have with that. Probably less important, but still within the top three [priorities] would be the rail service, because we do have some folks coming from the Chicagoland area, Macomb, and even further parts within the state.”

Reed said she would take concerns about keeping passenger Amtrak trains and road conditions of US Route 34 to Springfield as well.
