Kankakee Deputies Hired To Provide Pipeline Security

KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) — Four Kankakee County Sheriff’s police deputies who were laid off early this year are back at work guarding a pipeline project.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports the deputies have been hired under a contract with the sheriff’s police to provide security to Enbridge Energy’s project.

The contract to provide security for the project that will run for about 79 miles mainly through southern Will County calls for the deputies to work as long as two years. Kankakee County Undersheriff Mike Downey says the contract will mean the sheriff’s office will be able to cut down on overtime pay.
