Knox County Revenues Down from Last Year

knox county sealAt last night’s Knox County Finance Committee Meeting, revenues and deficits were discussed.Committee Members talked about how revenues are down, and heavily rely on unreliable means.

Knox County Treasurer Robin Davis talked about how the expenditure is relatively the same, but they are trying to make cuts where they can.

Davis tells WGIL that the county relies on revenue sources that are unpredictable at times.

“Fines and fees are down,” says Davis.  “Which, you can’t predict that. You don’t know who’s going to pay their fines and fees. Tax revenue is pretty much as we anticipated. It’s just mainly fines and fees, other services we provide, people come in and purchase death certificates or marriage licenses. We’re dependent a lot on things we don’t have any control over.”

Davis mentioned that it would be nice if legislation got rid of unfunded mandates, such as “taking care of prisoners”, which falls on the counties.
