Wyatt Earp Museum Operating Under New Ownership Following 10 Year Closure

wyattearpThe Wyatt Earp Birthplace Museum in Monmouth is open again to the public after 10 years of being closed.Museum Director Kelly Semande purchased the property and will open it’s doors to the public .

Semande tells WGIL that he is personally putting in hours of work for restoration, and funding repairs.

“I’ve been enjoying myself repairing this, I’ve been doing it all by myself, I have not been able to get volunteers, a lot of people are busy, and with school coming, I can understand that,” says Semande. ” A lot of the finances have been coming out of my pocket, and some very little funds, what’s come in as donations.”

Semande says he jumped on the opportunity to buy the property when he heard it was on sale because he is very interested in history of the West and Wyatt Earp.

He is a veteran and works as a re-enactor, which he plans to bring to the Wyatt Earp Birthplace Museum as well. Plans of expanding the collection of memorbilia are also in store for the future of the museum.

The Wyatt Earp Birthplace Museum is located at 406 South 3rd Street in Monmouth and will be open Thursdays and Saturdays during the summer from 1 to 5 p.m.
