2nd Annual Shave for the Brave Coming Up For Memorial Day

shave-for-the-braveThe 2nd Annual Shave for the Brave Fundraiser will be held this Sunday to raise funds to honor veterans.Just in time for memorial day, this fundraiser will help fund the Quad Cities Honor Flights.

Male Participants can have their head or beard shaved and this year women can participate as well. Females can “trim for the troops” by cutting four or more inches of their hair for the event.

Event Coordinator Crystal Wilson tells the WGIL Morning News that this all started as a bet, but they keep doing it to raise money for the veterans.

“It started with a bet with me and James, just kind of a joke over a beer, to shave his beard, and now we’re into six events that we’ve had, and this is the second annual now for the shave,” says Wilson. “We didn’t really know that we were going to continue on with this, but we’ve raised so much money that we just can’t stop.”

The event will run in conjunction with The Laser’s Big Band Barbecue at Cactus Country in Galesburg.

Participation is free, however all proceeds will go towards the Quad Cities Honor Flights. The Honor Flights are held four times a year, where veterans are flown to Washington D.C. to see the memorials dedicated to their services.

At the event, colors will be presented at 3:15, shaving begins around 3:30 and the first band starts up at 4.
