Ex-Hospital Director Pleads Guilty To Embezzling $700,000

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A former children’s hospital official in central Illinois has pleaded guilty to 11 counts of theft, money laundering, forgery, and wire fraud.

WTAX-AM reports former St. John’s Children’s Hospital Executive Director Margaret “Peggy” Curtin entered the plea Thursday. She’s due to be sentenced Aug. 14.

Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser says he’ll recommend the 55-year-old Curtin receive “significant” prison time. She could receive between four and 15 years in prison. She’s not eligible for probation.

Defense attorney Peter Wise says he doesn’t know yet what sentence he’ll recommend. He says Curtin wants to make financial restitution.

Prosecutors say Curtin embezzled the money from the hospital between December 2008 and her arrest last Sept. 22.
