Gov. Rauner To Put Pro-Business Bills Before Legislature

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois’ Democrat-dominated Legislature will soon have its say on key pieces of Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s pro-business agenda.

Rauner plans to introduce five bills Friday. But in a shot at a compromise with just days left in the session, the governor won’t include his most controversial proposal, an anti-union “right to work” initiative.

Among the measures are bills to impose term limits for state lawmakers, freeze property taxes and make workers’ compensation insurance less costly for employers.

Rauner also wants to make it tougher for people to file lawsuits against businesses.

House lawmakers soundly defeated Rauner’s right-to-work proposal in a symbolic vote last week.

But Rauner is still pushing to allow some governments to opt out of prevailing wage agreements and collective bargaining.
