McCullough, RonaldRonald D. McCullough, 88, of Galesburg, died at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on November 5, 1926 in Galesburg to Joseph O. and Leora (Ewalt) McCullough. He married Margaret Stromgren on April 6, 1947 in Galesburg.

Ron was a lifelong resident of Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1945. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Additionally, he was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club for more than 50 years and was a lifetime member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the Elks Club. He enjoyed traveling, golf and baseball, and was an avid swimmer and diver.

Ron served in the United States Navy for two years during World War II. He was a Seaman First Class and was stationed in Saipan.

Ron was a fireman for the City of Galesburg for 25 years, retiring in 1978. During his tenure with the fire department, he worked part-time at Dick Blick. After retirement, he worked full-time at Dick Blick until retiring in 1987, totaling 34 years with the company.

Ron was very proud of his family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; three children, Patricia Seagren of Wheaton, Illinois, Jeff (Sue) McCullough of Casselberry, Florida, and Lori (Kip) Walker of Alpharetta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Stacy Schleeter, Ashley Seagren, Tyler McCullough, Whitney Wiggins, Kelsey Walker, and Cody Walker; and two great grandchildren, Benjamin Schleeter and Olivia Wiggins. Ron is predeceased by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, and a son-in-law, Alan Seagren.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at First Lutheran Church with an Honor Guard provided by the Galesburg Fire Department. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Pamela Marolla and Rev. Vince Marolla officiating. Following a luncheon, graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted.
