Baughman, RichardRichard Lee Baughman, 86, of Galesburg, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 in the Knox County Nursing Home.

He was born February 28, 1929 in Salem Twp., Knox County, Illinois the son of Robert and Caroline (Vancil) Baughman. He married Julia L. Colwell on April 12, 1952 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death December 10, 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Laura J. Appell of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Julie (and Derek) Jones and Richard Lee Waldorf, both of Galesburg; a great granddaughter, Jaylea Jones; three brothers, Robert K. Baughman of East Galesburg, Dennis N. Baughman of Omaha, Nebraska, and Roger L. Baughman of Galesburg; three sisters, Carol J. Temple of Galesburg, Phylis M. Crockett of Illinois, and Myrna E. Godsil of Galesburg; and many nieces and nephews.   In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Lee Baughman Jr. in 1953; his son-in-law, Roger L. Appell in 2008; and a sister, Betty Stromgren.

After graduating from Galesburg High School, Richard was an Electronics Specialist in the United States Air Force during the Korean War Era.   After being discharged, he was an Electronic Technician in the Radio Repair Shop of the Midwest Division of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He retired in 1991 after many years of employment. His family also owned and operated the former Irv’s Lunch on Main Street in Galesburg from 1977 to 1985. Richard retired from the Galesburg Emergency Police after many years of service.   He was a pilot, an Extra Class HAM Radio Operator, and enjoyed cartooning and painting.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.   Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, where Military Honors will be offered.
