Galesburg Man Sentenced for Duplicate Burglary Crime

knox county courthouseA sentence was given to the Galesburg man who was arrested for burglarizing the Knox County Courthouse for the second time after 11 years.

64-year-old Howard D. Campbell was arrested April 13th and last week was sentenced to serve eight years for one count of burglary.

Camera surveillance helped identify Campbell when he entered late at night on April 12th through a basement window he had broken.

Campbell was initially being charged for theft and criminal damage to government property as well, but those were dropped by the state in exchange for a guilty plea.

Campbell committed the same crime back in 2004 for stealing nearly 10 thousand dollars in cash, checks, and money orders from the Knox County Courthouse.

He was suspected of breaking into the Knox County Courthouse and smashing a window into the traffic and treasurers office to obtain the funds. This time around he used the same method, but only got away with a small amount of change.

Previously, Campbell served six and a half years for his first Courthouse crime.
