Improvements and Events at Bunker Links Discussed at Golf Commission Meeting

Bunker LinksAt yesterday’s Galesburg Golf Advisory Commission meeting, the groundskeeper and golf pro discussed upcoming events for Bunker Links Golf Course.

Groundskeeper Matt Miles brought up various improvements being made around the course.

One of these renovations includes a drainage tile on the back 9 holes.

Miles tells WGIL that this project will help combat heavy rains.

“On the back nine, we’re putting in major drainage tile to tie up the wet areas that we get during heavy rains,” says Miles. “We’re taking that through the back nine in the lowest points of the course, and we’re getting it drained out.”

Miles tells the Golf Commission that this project is moving along nicely.

Bunker Links Golf Pro Bryan Luedtke addressed upcoming events at the golf course as well.

So far, seven teams have signed up for the Seniors Only Super-Ball on June 11th, but anticipates between 10 and 15 teams.

The council addressed concerns about the Galesburg City Council bi-law that does not allow two day tournaments, with the all-city tournament being the exception.

Commission members noted that the golf course could bring in roughly two thousand dollars a weekend this way, but it would tie up the golf course for other players.
