Woman Charged in Southern Illinois Crash That Killed 2

RED BUD, Ill. (AP) — A 20-year-old southern Illinois woman has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with a January crash that killed two Randolph County women.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Crystal Steinheimer of Red Bud faces a second felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.

She is accused of causing the deaths of 19-year-old Abigail Liefer of Ruma and 20-year-old Hannah Marie Porter of Red Bud. Steinheimer’s vehicle crossed the center line while driving northbound on Illinois Route 159 and collided head-on with a southbound car driven by Liefer. Porter was a passenger in Liefer’s car.

Charges were filed Friday in Monroe County.

Steinheimer faces up to 28 years in prison on both felony counts. It could not be immediately determined if she had a lawyer.
