Bark in the Park to Aid Pets in “Ruff Shape”Tomorrow

Guardian Angels Humane SocietyMore than 100 dogs and 200 dog owners are expected to inhabit the Lincoln Park Pavilion tomorrow morning.
The 10th annual Bark in the Park is scheduled to take place with a number of activities in line for pets and their owners.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and at 9, a dog walk around the park will kick-off the event. The animals will then be able to “bob for biscuits” in a sanitized toilet bowl, they can play games, and even go on a “treasure trail” for organic doggy treats.

That’s according to Guardian Angels Humane Society President Cathy White, who tells WGIL, that the fun is for a cause.

“It’s a benefit to help homeless and needy pets in this area,” says White. “We provide medical help for pets in need, if an old dog needs a dental and the owner just has part of the money, we help that dog get the medical care. We do that with cats, dogs, rabbits, any sort of pet that people need help with. Over the last 10 years, we’ve spent over $800,000 helping pets in this area.”

White says the event raises around $6,000 every year, and that this year they hope to raise $7,000 for the 10th anniversary. Events are expected to conclude around 11 a.m.
