CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — There might not be a player who seems more destined to play baseball and do it at Illinois than Casey Fletcher.
He’s the son of former Illinois and major league catcher Darrin Fletcher. And his grandfather, Tom Fletcher, played at Illinois before a pro career, too.
The Illini only offered Casey Fletcher that chance after he spent two seasons in community college and was on the verge of heading to another school.
The outfielder couldn’t be happier that he got his chance. He’s one of the best hitters on one of the best teams in baseball. And Big ten champ Illinois (47-8-1) will host its first NCAA regional on Friday.
