Smith, Wnonah PhotoNorma Wenonah Smith, 91 of Berwick, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at her home. 

  She was born October 1, 1923 in a farm house near Carthage, the daughter of Carl F. and Ella C. Flesner Johnson.  She married Willis B. Smith on April 1, 1945 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on April 21, 2010.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Gloria Clay.

  Wenonah is survived by two daughters, Norma Smith of Abingdon and Sonja (Bud) Dunbar of Berwick; two sons, Dave (Julie) Smith of RR Berwick and Pastor Tom (Chris) Smith of Berwick; 12 grandchildren, Terri (Lyle) Weidenhamer, Sondra Hall, Cathleen (Michael) Bishop, Daniel (Monica) Smith, Lance (Michelle) Dunbar, Anna (David) Cooper, Sarah Dunbar, Conan (Erica) Smith, Waylon Smith, Jenna Smith, Amber (TJ) Stambaugh and Colton Smith; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester (Tillie) Johnson of Galesburg; and one sister, Esther Vanloo of Scottsdale, Arizona.

  She grew up in the Carthage area and attended Pioneer Country School and later received her GED on May 10, 1988 at the age of 65 from Southeastern Community College.  She worked at the Blue Bell Clothing Factory in Abingdon, Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Abingdon Nursing Home and she worked for 15 years at the Research Hospital in Galesburg, retiring in 1985. She had lived in Berwick most of her adult life.  She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church, faithful servant of Jesus Christ, Brownie Scout leader and a member of the Neighborly Circle Club. She fulfilled a childhood dream by climbing to the top of Starved Rock at the age of 89. She loved everyone!

  Funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Berwick Baptist Church.  David Cooper will officiate.  Burial will be in the Berwick Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
