Galesburg City Council members are expected to discuss an on-going debate once again tonight, regarding the naming of a city community center.

Council Members have held lengthy discussions, in regard to naming the Boys & Girls Club of Knox County as the center, however action has been tabled for three straight meetings–the latest reasoning due to a requested financial report by Aldermen Wayne Dennis and Russell Fleming.

During closing statements two weeks ago, nearly every alderman as well as Mayor John Pritchard suggested moving on the issue at tonight’s meeting.

A vote in favor was taken nearly two months ago on the issue, however, due to absences on the council, it only received a 3-2 vote with not enough votes to pass.

If the club is chosen, it would enter the city into a five-year agreement. Aldermen have also discussed naming the Broad Street Armory as a long term plan for the center. However, the cost to renovate the facility is projected to cost $500,000–council members have currently only allocated $115,000 in funds.
