Lear, Charlotte “Duke” L.

Lear CharlotteCharlotte L. “Duke” Lear, age 86, of Knoxville died at 8:48 A.M. on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Care Center of Abingdon, Illinois.

She was born on October 22, 1928 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of Edward G. and Elizabeth Haynes Baxter. She married Paul Lear on January 8, 1947 in Greenville, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband of Knoxville, Illinois.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa (Jay) Wise of Galesburg, Illinois and Debora Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois; one step-son William Duvall of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Ja`net Birdette, Bob Avila, Christy Clark, and Nicole Kindhart; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia Kniss, Kaliyah Wilson, Sophia Armstrong, Cash Avila, Anahi` Kindhart, Isaac Avila, Giovani Kindhart and soon to be born Rajen Wilson; and two sisters, Bernice Sosh and Vera Becker of Knoxville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William Edward Lear; two brothers, Clarence Baxter and Edward G. Baxter, Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Brintlinger and Edna Bachler.

She worked for the former Maytag, Inc. of Galesburg, Illinois for 38 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Frist Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois and she enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and her grandkids.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at the Hope International Lodge, (formerly Good Samaritan Retreat), 566 Knox Highway 26, Galesburg, Illinois. There will be no visitation. Rev. Melinda Bern will officiate. Fellowship following the services will be held at the Hope Lodge. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
