Blixt MaryMary Charlotte Blixt, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 2:55 A.M. on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born January 13, 1930, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Robert E. and Clara E. Mitchell Ericson. She married Harland Blixt on July 2, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois. Mary is survived by her two sons, Harland David (Sandra McCollum) Blixt of Chatham, Illinois and Richard Edward Blixt of Galesburg, Illinois, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Christina Lovin of Lancaster, Kentucky and Darrel (Bonnie) Ericson of Galesburg, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers (Robert, Philip, Kent, and Merrill Ericson).

Mary attended Craig School in Galesburg and is a graduate of Galesburg High School. She was a department manager for many years at the former Belscott, Arlans, and W.T. Grant Stores in Galesburg, Illinois. Then, at an age when many people are ending careers, she graduated from Carl Sandburg College with an associate degree, and then Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by a Master of Science degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration. Her internship for the latter degree was spent at the Grand Canyon. Her desire to seek an education later in life in a field she loved was an inspiration to many.

Mary was a member of the First Church of God in Galesburg, Illinois. She was also a member of the Illinois Environmental Education Association, Nature Conservatory, National Park Association, National Park Trust, Illinois Audubon Club, and several other wildlife associations.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Burial will take place at the Henderson Cemetery, Henderson, Illinois. Family will have a fellowship at Jimmy’s in Wataga, Illinois, following the graveside services.
