Burgess, Kenneth E.

Burgess KennethKenneth E. Burgess, age 69, of rural Gilson, Illinois died at 8:39 P.M. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born on February 28, 1946 in Brimfield, Illinois, the son of Donald and Vernice Burcham Burgess. He attended and graduated from Yates City High School in 1964. He married Arbella “Gay” Vancil Allen on December 29, 1994 at their home in rural Gilson, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife, Gay of rural Gilson, Illinois; two children: Larry (Cheri) Allen of Farmington, Illinois and Wendy Montenaro of Galesburg, Illinois; six grandchildren: Brandon Sneyd, Amy (Jarred) Craver, Keegan Sneyd, Bayleigh Allen, Isabella “Issy” Montenaro and James Montenaro; two great grandchildren: Benson Sneyd and Brandon Craver; a sister, Donna (Richard) Grubb of yates City, Illinois; sister-in-law, Dianne Burgess of Yates City, Illinois; two nieces, Shelley (Douglas) Siegel and Tammie McCoy and a nephew: Rodney (Kristin) Grubb of Farmington, Illinois; two great nieces: Austin and Kolten Siegel; and a special friend, Caleb. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Burgess.

He joined his father and brother in the family owned trucking business, Burgess Trucking, in 1963, then, he and his brother purchased the business in 1975. He was a member of the 182nd Tactical Fighters Squadron, Peoria, Illinois and Midwest Truckers Association. He enjoyed all sports, mostly basketball, football, and baseball. He also enjoyed animals and his dogs.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Yates City Cemetery, Yates City, Illinois. Rev. Jim Bennett will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois.
