Churchill Junior High’s Kaylee Miller and Galesburg High School Junior Sara Saey (SAY) were the two finalists who had the opportunity to spend the day in Chicago.

Surrounded by friends, family, and fellow competition participants, it was announced that Saey was the first winner of the competition.

Saey tells WGIL that she is honored to have had the opportunity to have been a part of the first year of Great Galesburg Shake.

“To win is just amazing, because this is the first year that we’ve done it, and they are trying to add a lot of new things,” says Saey. “It feels like quite an accomplishment to have made it this far, but regardless of who won, I am just just so lucky to have made it this far, and to have had this opportunity.”

The competition started with 90 students ranging from fourth grade through senior year of high school.

The Great Galesburg Shake consisted of six rounds, one of which included a tour of WGIL and recording a commercial on the Twelve Tools for Triumph.

The competition gave students an opportunity to learn professional conversational skills and manners and interact with the business community.
