Knox College Best Buddies Organization Recognized as Illinois’ Chapter of the Year

Knox CollegeA local college organization has been internationally recognized as Downstate Illinois’ Chapter of the Year.Knox College Best Buddies received the award for the first time in the chapter’s history.

Best Buddies Program Director for Central Illinois Taylor Lodewegen says the organization develops friendship programs for community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Lodewegen tells WGIL that Knox does a great jobs with these relationships and keeping the community informed about the organization.

“Knox was an amazing chapter this year,” says Lodewegen. “They have not only worked very hard to have really strong one-to-one friendships, but they also feel very strongly about telling their community in Galesburg about Best Buddies and what our organization does.”

Lodewegen says what sets Knox apart is that they go above and beyond.

According to Lodewegen, the chapter held a luncheon for Knox College administrators, nearby high school administrators and community members to talk about the organization.

The Knox College Best Buddies chapter also helped raise over five thousand dollars in their Friendship Walk fundraiser to help fund other Best Buddy clubs in the state.
