Nominations Being Accepted For State Outdoors Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Do you know someone who’s an outstanding outdoorsman? Illinois is offering you a chance to immortalize that person.

An Illinois Conservation Foundation statement on Tuesday says nominations are being accepted through June 19 for induction into the Illinois Outdoors Hall of Fame.

It says selection is for those who have “made significant contributions and unparalleled dedication to preserving, promoting, enhancing and supporting natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities.”

Last year’s inductees included Dan Basore. He’s been promoting fishing to children and adults throughout the Midwest for more than 30 years. Another was Paul Kelley. With Illinois Trappers Association, he helped convince legislators to reject attempts to do away with trapping in Illinois in the 1970s.

This year’s inductees will be honored at a foundation gala on Sept. 24 in Bloomingdale.
