Tolley, MarjorieMarjorie Tolley, 89, of Galesburg, passed away June 1, 2015 at 10:22 a.m.

She was born August 9, 1925 in Elba Township to Herman and Retta (Kelso) Hoogberg. She married Howard Tolley on June 5, 1949 at Knoxville Presbyterian Church. He passed away July 26, 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Evelyn Moon.

She is survived by three children, Steven (Margaret) Tolley of Galesburg, Martha (Howard) Christensen of Crystal Lake, and David (Kathy) Tolley of Avon. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Ellen Davis, Rachel Ryan, Daniel Tolley, Janice Walters, Julie Kallergis, Caroline and Michelle Christensen, Joe, Luke and Seth Tolley; and seven great grandchildren.

She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1943 and thru the years was employed by Atty. James E. Davis, Huff Insurance Agency and Home Savings. She started a rubber stamp business known as “Rubber Rainbows”, which she operated 21 years.

Her membership in First Presbyterian Church was very important to her and she served as an Elder and sang in the choir for 52 years. She was a charter member of Sweet Adelines and sang with the chorus and a quartet ‘Melody Mrs.’ for 14 years. She assisted her husband in leading Hague Hustlers 4-H Club and they met at the Tolley home for 10 years.

She was very devoted to her husband of 64 years, as well as the three generations of children, and corresponded with them weekly for many years. Her interests included singing, using rubber stamps, cooking and entertaining her family and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Celebration of Life service will be at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Knoxville Cemetery.
