Galesburg Police Re-Open Main Street Following Standoff

WGIL News Icon 250px cmpEarlier this morning, Galesburg Police responded to a standoff with an unknown male. Roughly three to four officers occupied the scene with guns drawn.

Six to seven squad cars occupied the area near Gray’s Sandwich Shop.

For about an hour, officers blocked off main street between the shop and Arthur street. Upon arrival on the scene, neighbors stood outside there homes waiting.

A nearby neighbor told WGIL that they were evacuated from their home.

Just before 12:30 p.m. police arrested the man, and the family was allowed into the home.

Police have reportedly re-opened the street and cleared the scene.

The Knox County Sheriffs office, Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service, and the Galesburg Fire Department all responded at the time of the incident.
