the big readThe Galesburg Public Library has once again been chosen as a recipient of the Big Read Grant.

GPL is one of 75 nonprofit organizations throughout the country to receive the $9,000 grant this year.

The grant will allow the library to host a Big Read project between September of 2015 and June of 2016.

This years program will focus on a collection of short stories entitled “Sun, Stone, and Shadows”– one of 37 selections that were available to participating organizations upon selection.

This will also reportedly be the ninth year the library has participated in the Big Read, and the eighth year that the program has run.

Some of the featured programming included with the Big Read, will include various performances, book readings, appearances from speakers, and a Cinco de Mayo party. Programming is scheduled to run between March of 2016 through early May.

The program is a part of the National Endowment for Arts. NEA Chairman Jane Chu says “The Big Read is a powerful example of how the arts can bring communities together.”
