Illinois Lawmakers Want Tornado Disaster Aid For Businesses

FAIRDALE, Ill. (AP) — The congressional delegation for Illinois is asking President Barack Obama to make a disaster declaration allowing small businesses to get loans in recovery from severe storms and tornadoes in northern Illinois in April.

A news release from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin’s office says lawmakers sent a letter to Obama on Wednesday asking for the declaration. It would allow business owners to get Small Business Administration loans to repair or replace damaged real estate, property and other items.

The letter says at least two tornadoes went through DeKalb and Ogle counties April 9. Two people were killed in the small community of Fairdale.

Durbin’s office says the lawmakers’ letter follows another sent Saturday by Gov. Bruce Rauner to Obama regarding storm recovery.
