Illinois Town of Normal Starts Celebrating 150 Years

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Celebrations are starting early in the central Illinois town of Normal, which reaches a big milestone later this year.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports cupcakes to mark the town’s 150th birthday will be given to the first 1,000 fans attending Sunday’s CornBelters baseball game at the Corn Crib stadium.

There will also be other giveaways, face painting, clowns and jugglers. Discounted tickets for $9 are available in advance.

And the festivities will continue during the summer with festivals, lectures, a street party and other events.

Residents voted to incorporate the town of Normal on Sept. 18, 1865. The area was formerly known as North Bloomington.
