New Video Gaming Cafe Set to Open Next Week

A more relaxed setting for video gambling will be opening next week on Seminary Street in Galesburg.Owner Chris Smith says they will also be opening a shop in West Peoria next week as well.

Smith tells WGIL that a friend suggested they open the cafe.

“A friend came to me and asked me if I would be interested in starting this up and it’s a new and upcoming thing and I thought I would give it a try,” says Smith.

Smith says the machines were installed on Seminary street yesterday, and in Peoria on Tuesday.

The cafe was just recently approved by the Illinois Gambling Board for their gaming license. Smith says it was a process to get approval, and obtaining the license was the longest part.

“First of all you have to get a location,” says Smith. “Once you get the location, then you get your liquor license. Then you get your state liquor license, and then you get your gaming license. And the gaming license is what took so long in the process.”

In April, Peoria changed regulation so that businesses with video gambling must obtain 80% of sales from food or drinks. The Galesburg City Council has discussed implementing a similar regulation in the area.
