Woman Allegedly Robbed and Beaten at Tompkins and Cedar

IL-GalesburgPDGalesburg Police have reported that a woman was found bruised and injured near the corner of Tompkins and Cedar Street.

According to reports, authorities responded at 2:15 a.m. yesterday, where they encountered 43-year-old Sheila Curtis. Curtis was found to have a large swollen left eye, as well as a large amount of blood on the left side of her face.

Curtis told police that three males exited a dark colored car with tinted windows and proceeded to beat her–robbing her of both a small amount of cash and cigarettes. When questioned, Curtis could not recall the amount of money stolen, nor which of the subjects allegedly assaulted her.

Curtis had reportedly exited Crazy 8’s Bar prior to the incident. Upon arrival, responding officers detected the odor of alcohol on Curtis.

Witnesses also reported, that Curtis was also harassing various students of Knox College walking through the area. A campus security guard told police that he does not believe there to be any video of either the alleged crime or of Curtis yelling.

Curtis was transported to Cottage Hospital via ambulance. Authorities currently have no suspects.
