K-9 “Officer Edo” Joins Knox County Sheriff’s Department

sheriffThe Knox County Sheriff’s Department recently welcomed a new officer. The crime stoppers name is Officer Edo of the K-9 unit.

Edo is a one and half year old German Shepherd who was purchased by the department thanks to a substantial grant from an anonymous donor.

That’s according to Sheriff David Clague, who says the $82,000 grant is being offered to the 102 sheriff’s departments in Illinois.

Clague tells WGIL, that the grant will finance a number of features for the K-9 unit as a whole.

“The grant also provided money for the training of the handler–the deputy from the sheriff’s department, as well as the newly acquired dog,” says Clague. “It also provided the purchase of a brand new Chevy Tahoe vehicle–strictly for the use of working with K-9.”

Clague added that the installation of police radio, computer, decal work, and emergency lights have all been included within the vehicle. Training of Edo’s handling officer Deputy Greg Jennings has been included as well.

Edo has been on the job for about two weeks now. Clague says the dog has already been a great addition, and has assisted in a number of drug related arrests.
