Knox College Graduates Over 300 in 170th Commencement

Knox College Commencement 2015Despite rainy conditions, parents, family, and friends, packed the south lawn on the campus of Knox College yesterday for the 170th commencement ceremony.

More than 300 students are believed to have graduated during yesterday’s festivities. Students from as far as India, Japan, and Ghana received their diplomas, and flags of each of the graduating countries were presented on the lawn.

Speeches from various college faculty and staff took place as well, including a thank you and best wishes from President Teresa Amott.

This years commencement speaker was Emmy-winning journalist, and CBS 60 Minutes Correspondent Bill Whitaker.

Whitaker addressed the class of 2015, offering words of advice for their future.

“As I look out on all of your young faces, I know you are going to make it,” says Whitaker. “You’ll go to graduate school, you’ll go to wall street, you’ll go to silicon valley, you’ll go to teach for America, you’ll go to the peace corps, you’ll start your own businesses. I have no doubt that you are going to make it in this world, but when you do, please remember to stop every once and awhile and thank the people–your parents, your professors, your friends–the people who have helped you along the way.”

Whitaker also received an honorary doctorate at the ceremony. He joins the likes of Abraham Lincoln, who received the college’s first honorary doctorate.
