Police: Teen Missing After Being Swept Away in Peoria Creek

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say they are looking for a 15-year-old boy swept away in a rain-swollen creek in Peoria.

The Peoria Journal Star  reports efforts to find Demarcus Jackson were suspended by rescuers Sunday night. Peoria police say the search will resume after rains subside and the creek is safer to enter.

Police were called to the creek around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. According to police, the teen was swimming in the creek with his brother and a friend when he was pulled downstream by a strong current. The other two were able to escape.

Severe storms drenched the area Sunday. The newspaper says there was flooding on some roadways, and that there were numerous reports of downed trees and power lines.
