IHSA Names New Director To Take Over in January

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois High School Association says Craig Anderson will become its next executive director.

Anderson will take over in January following current Executive Director Marty Hickman’s previously announced retirement.

The IHSA oversees high school sports in Illinois and has about 800 member schools.

Anderson takes over as the IHSA faces a class-action lawsuit over concussions filed late last year. The organization is the first prep sports governing body in the country to face such a lawsuit.

Anderson is now the Bloomington-based organization’s administrator for football, baseball and wrestling. He also oversees IHSA’s officials department and previously worked as a teacher, coach and athletic director.

In a news release, the IHSA notes that Anderson has been involved in a number of safety initiatives. They include limits on contact in football practices.
