Rockford Police Say Group Of Teenagers Behind Crime Spree

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Rockford police say a group of teenagers are behind a series of armed robberies and carjackings, with women particularly being targeted.

The Rockford Register Star reports that police believe 20 juveniles are behind the crimes. Police said earlier this month that eight of them and an 18-year-old were arrested and charged with crimes that included a home invasion, robberies and vehicle thefts that happened in late May.

According to police, teens from the group are behind an armed robbery and two vehicle thefts on Monday.

Police Chief Chet Epperson said the department would look at possibly charging parents and guardians of teenagers who commit crimes after curfew. He says it’s “one of the last things” police want, but that they “need parental responsibility.”
