Electronic Sign Rising Above Lake County Fairgrounds

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (AP) — A 36-foot-high electronic sign at the gates of the Lake County Fairgrounds will be ready for the opening of the annual festival on July 29.

Brick support columns were finished last week at the site of the fairgrounds since 2009. The sign was part of the original plans for the facility but funding has been an issue.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that fair officials had counted on the sale of adjoining property that hasn’t occurred.

Kelli Kepler-Yarc is president of the executive board which oversees day-to-day operations. She says the village of Grayslake contributed $45,000 to the sign.

She says the new sign should make the site “more appealing and hopefully more inviting.”

Other fairground improvements are underway.
