Nursing Home Committee Discusses Effects of Illinois State Budget and CVS Omnicare Merger

Knox county nursing homeThe Knox County Nursing Home Committee spent time discussing how they will be effected by the state budget deficit at their meeting yesterday.

Knox County Nursing Home Administrator Rachel Secrist says because of the deficit in the budget, the Medicaid daily rate went down.

According to Secrist, the rate was cut by 12.6%, which means it went down from $142 per resident per day to $124 per resident per day.

Fortunately, Secrist announced to the committee that the Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative gave them $424,000 last month, instead of their usual $200,000.

Secrist informed the committee that the pharmacy the nursing home normally uses, Omnicare, was recently bought out by CVS Health.

Secrist tells WGIL that because there is no CVS pharmacy in Knox County, a backup pharmacy is set in place if needed.

“The only time that we use a backup pharmacy is if it’s after hours and our regular pharmacy service couldn’t do it,” says Secrist. “If we would need to use a CVS, we would obviously have to get it from Canton, Kewanee or Peoria.”

Secrist says the nursing home anticipates there to be no major changes, except more efficiency and a slightly lower cost.
