DeVorce, Gary “Pete” D.

devorce, garyGary Donald “Pete” DeVorce, 61, of Galesburg, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born May 4, 1954 in Liberal, Kansas, the son of Napolean and Dell T. (Guyton) DeVorce.

He is survived by two brothers, Leedale (and Vera) Massangale of Champaign, Illinois and Thomas DeVorce of Winfield, Kansas; five sisters, Elizabeth Ann Taylor of Galesburg, Brenda DeVorce of Liberal, Ernestine (and Jimmy) Jones of Houston, Texas, Sherrilynn (and Terry) DeVorce-Washington of Liberal, and Marilyn DeVorce of Liberal; a cousin, Jimmy Carr of Galesburg; a host of special nieces; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1972. He worked at the former Gale Products until they closed, then worked for St. Mary’s Square Living Center for 10 years. Currently, he was working as a cashier at the National Blvd. Hy Vee. He was an active member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Toby Carlos officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church to establish a fund in Gary’s name for families in need.
