Fowler, Helen L.

Fowler, Helen L.Helen L. Fowler, 84, of Monmouth, passed away at 3:40 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Monmouth Nursing Home.

She was born May 14, 1931 in rural Smithshire, IL the daughter of Charles E. and Margaret V. (Williams) Hawk.  Helen was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth High School.

Helen married Stanley E. Fowler in Harrisburg, IL on May 26, 1950, he survives.

God, Church, family and friends were high priorities for Helen.  Helen was a member of the Roseville Church of the Nazarene.  She was an excellent cook and would always invite newcomers at church to their home for a lovely meal, or just to visit.  She taught nursery Sunday school class at the Church of the Nazarene for several years, and many of her former students remember her fondly as a warm, loving teacher.  She was on hand to help with any church project, service or Bible School.  She was extremely supportive of people starting new jobs or alternative projects and generously supported and attended fund raisers for different venues.

Helen visited and checked on family members and friends just as faithfully as she attended church.  She was probably the world’s best as visiting the sick, the shut-ins, and people confined in nursing homes.  Small gifts often appeared “just because she had been thinking about someone.”

She was the unofficial “Director” of the hair salon her son owns and operates in a portion of their home.  Quietly winding her way among the clients and getting to know each customer as an individual, offering hospitality and encouragement to each one.  Helen was also the unofficial “Gopher” for supplies that might be needed unexpectedly or just to brighten someone’s day.

Although Helen was a homemaker and considered that her calling; she became so much more to so many people.  Even at the end of her life she was so concerned about others and how they were faring.  Her quiet faith and trust in God served her to the end and escorted her home.

Survivors include her husband and son, Ron Fowler both of Monmouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers; Charles Hawk, Jr., Clarence Hawk, Robert Hawk, and Max Hawk.  5 sisters; Lucille Vestal, Mary McIntyre, Maxine Hawk, Joan Johnson, Ruth Hull, and two infant siblings.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2015 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Burial will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Friends may call Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the funeral home where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Memorials may be given to Roseville Nazarene Church or Monmouth Nursing Home.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
