5-Year-Old Suburban Chicago Girl Dies When Struck By Vehicle

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a 5-year-old suburban Chicago girl has died after being struck by a vehicle when she walked onto a roadway.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office on Sunday said Aleeza Haq of Glendale Heights died in the Hoffman Estates accident Saturday. The medical examiner says she died of multiple injuries and ruled her death an accident.

Aleeza’s mother, Sarah Hussaini, says the last thing her daughter said was “Mama.” She says her daughter was smiling.

Hoffman Estates police say the girl was struck by a 52-year-old Hoffman Estates motorist. They say she wasn’t breathing when emergency responders arrived. She died at a hospital in Park Ridge.

Teddy bears and flowers were left at the crash scene.
Police say they’re investigating the death but don’t expect to issue any citations.
