Man Arrested for Knox Discount Liquor Robbery

galesburgpolicelogoThe Galesburg Police Department responded to a robbery in progress on the 500th block of South Henderson Street at approximately 3:59 am yesterday. Cody M. Wilkins was taken into custody on multiple charges, which included burglary, criminal damage to property, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest.

Authorities say witnesses heard loud banging noises, and saw the man break the front door glass of the Knox Discount Liquor store.

Wilkins was reported wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black gloves, and a handkerchief.

Upon arrival, law enforcement reportedly chased the subject, who fled the scene on a bicycle. Wilkins was caught by authorities and following a search, a number of glass blown pipes, bottles of alcohol, and packs of cigarettes were discovered. According to reports, all were labeled with price tags with the exception of the alcohol. Police concluded that $1,000 in stolen merchandise was taken.

Wilkins reportedly told police he robbed the business in order to pay his drug dealer.

Following arrest, Police transported Wilkins to Cottage Hospital for a medical evaluation. He remains in custody at the Knox County Jail.
