HAMPSHIRE, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois family is seeking historic designation for a house designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports a state advisory group will review whether the Muirhead House in Kane County should be included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Wright designed the six-bedroom home in 1951 and it was built two years later. Robert and Elizabeth Muirhead lived there until moving to Wisconsin in the mid-1980s.
The house stayed in the family. It was extensively restored in 2005 and opened, for a time, as a bed-and-breakfast. While the bed-and-breakfast business ended, the family still allows public tours.
The Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council will consider the application Friday. The home is located about 40 miles west of Chicago.
