Belleville Hospital Looks To Align With St. Louis Provider

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Belleville hospital is asking Illinois regulators to approve an ownership change that would bring it under the umbrella of a prominent St. Louis network.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Memorial Hospital filed a request with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to align with BJC HealthCare, which operates Barnes Jewish Hospital. The state agency is accepting public comments through August 5.

The newly-formed Memorial Regional Health Services Inc. would operate the Belleville facility as well as Memorial Hospital East, which is under construction in Shiloh. BJC also owns 111 acres in Shiloh but hasn’t disclosed its plans for that parcel.

The partnership comes after the Illinois review board’s recent approval of a new private hospital in O’Fallon to replace St. Elizabeth Hospital’s aging downtown Belleville site.
