Fire Heavily Damages Building on Pinckneyville Town Square

PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Fire fighters say a building on Pinckneyville’s town square is likely a total loss after a large fire.

The fire came almost four years to the day after a massive fire destroyed the Kunz Opera House in the southern Illinois town’s square and killed a DuQuoin firefighter. Fire fighters responded to the Monday evening blaze from at least seven nearby towns.

Pinckneyville Fire Chief Jim Gielow tells the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan that the brick structure housed offices and apartments. No one was injured.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
