Galesburg High School Entryway Project Not Expected to be Completed by August Deadline

GHS constructionThe Galesburg High School Entryway and Lobby project is moving along, but construction is not expected to be completed by the mid-August deadline. That’s according to outgoing District 205 Superintendent Bart Arthur, who tells WGIL that he hopes they will at least have the entryway and asbestos removal done by that time.

“We gave the construction people August, mid-August, for completion, but I know that that won’t happen, but that’s our goal,” says Arthur. “The high school is a very populated building and very busy, and we’re hoping that they can at least get the asbestos removed and get the front done and then there will be other stages in the construction as we go forward.”

The entryway will have floor-to-ceiling tinted glass, more doors for accessibility to the building, a buzzer entry through the office, and a glass foyer. Arthur says this is a way to address security at GHS, and that the previous design had “issues that were a little bit scary in this day and age”.

The entire remodel project isn’t expected to be completed until next summer, but Arthur says the front entry will be done by the school year, however some of the classrooms won’t have the flooring done.
