Carl Sandburg College Offers Paramedic Training Courses

Carl Sandburg CollegeThere is a need for paramedics throughout the state of Illinois, and one local college is helping individuals train to fill that need.Carl Sandburg College offers a one-year certification program and a two-year associates degree in applied science for anyone interested in becoming a paramedic. The program prepares participants for the state paramedic licensure exam.

If there is uncertainty about if being a paramedic is for you, Knox County Sheriff David Clague tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that those interested should try the program to find out.

“I would urge anybody that’s kind of hedging, that there is an inner calling, there is education, there is job opportunities, and yet, if they sit back and they think ‘I don’t know if I can do it’, go to the college, get on board, and do the internship and you’ll find out first hand if you’re going to be able to do it or not,” says Clague.

Previously, the nearest program was in Peoria at ICC, so this will help the local area fulfill the need for more paramedics.

Paramedic Training Head Instructor Ray Darzan says training is covered through the classroom, internships, and field work to learn how to respond to traumatic injuries.

Classes are offered fall and spring, with evening classes available as well.
